Metrics & how to use
- Shelter ≥30% of income: share of private households paying 30%+ of income on shelter (census universe for that question).
- Core housing need: households in unaffordable, unsuitable, or overcrowded housing per Statistics Canada.
- Tenant stress: among tenant households, share spending ≥30% of income on shelter.
- Composite: average of available components, each clamped to 0–100; missing components are omitted from the mean.
- Investors: use “Tenant stress” to spot neighbourhoods where renters are more likely to be shelter-cost burdened.
- Owner-occupiers: composite, shelter ≥30%, and core need highlight affordability strain and housing inadequacy—context only, not investment advice.
